Safariland ELS review
Dad and I’ve been running Safariland ELS belt rigs for a couple months now. If you’re not familiar with ELS, it’s a very easy-on easy-off belt and accessory system. It’s grown very popular in 3-gun where a stage can be … Continue reading
Area 2 Desert Classic Championship, 2011
Got back late last night (or early this morning?) from the 24th annual Area 2 Championship (Desert Classic) in Mesa, AZ. I took High Junior in Limited Division, High Junior Overall, and 21st Overall (out of 127). I had 930.2902 … Continue reading

2011 MGM Targets Junior Shooter’s Camp
This year’s MGM Junior Shooter’s Camp was the best yet. I’ll say that right now. I’ll also apologize for the lack of photos in this post, but I was kinda busy shooting! Most of the photos here were stolen from … Continue reading

An XD(M) Production RaceGun
A local shooter tasked me with kitting up his stock XD(m) into a “RaceGun” for USPSA’s Production Division. When he went and shot it, he couldn’t have been more pleased! Before: (note: this is another XD(M) I’m working on. It … Continue reading
Review: Marvel 1911-22 Conversion Kit
If you’re looking at a .22 conversion kit, I’ve found Marvel Precision’s “Unit 1″ 1911-22 kit to be accurate and reliable, although their customer service is somewhat lacking. Marvel 1911-22 Marvel Precision offers a .22 conversion kit for the STI … Continue reading
Building a Para RaceGun, Pt. I
At the match last Saturday a local shooter handed me his Para P16-40 and told me to “Fix it”. Apparently it would not cycle with Federal factory ammunition, and it had about an 11 pound trigger pull weight. My first … Continue reading
Saigas on TV
Shooting USA just aired an episode about the Saiga in Competition. It’s worth checking out! John Scoutten also does some work on an M&P .40.
Match Results: Last Weekend
Shot a local match here last saturday, then Dad and I drove down to Vegas for a fun NFL themed match with a lot of props (we had to throw a couple footballs, a penalty flag). On the Saturday match, … Continue reading

At SHOT SHOW 2011
Arrived in Las Vegas early yesterday morning and shot a match. Unfortunately on the first stage my custom Glock 35 jammed up and when I racked the slide to clear it the gun went off. I had my finger out … Continue reading
Saiga 12 Magwell
In my original post about the Saiga 12, I detailed how hard it was to reload on a closed bolt. The AwKward AK “rock and lock” reload is magnified by the fact that the fat 12 gauge shells stick out … Continue reading

Saiga 12 project: gas system
The factory-standard Saiga 12 shotgun is designed to shoot “Hi-Brass” loads, the smallest loads that will function reliably are #6 shot as opposed to the softer-shooting and more commonly used ”low brass” #7.5 shot found at Wal-Mart. Every gun is … Continue reading
Saiga 12 project
When Dad and I started getting more into 3-gun shooting we started to look for a replacement for our old Benelli/H&K M1 Super 90. It’s a fine gun, but because it’s recoil operated it kicks more than most shotguns. This isn’t very good for competitive shooting, but it’s so bad that after a 24 round all-shotgun stage Dad (who’s had more concussions than he can remember) is dizzy. It doesn’t help when a stage requires slugs, either, or he darn near tears his thumbnail off loading it one…shell…at…a…time.
This week…
This week has been pretty busy. My 7 day adventure had me encounter exploding reloaders, the mule-like kick of a Benelli M1, TORX head screws and a combination lock with a 4-letter combination (It’s not what you think…). So as … Continue reading
